The Art of Diane May

Welcome!

Hello! I am Diane Michele May. Welcome to my website! I’m happy you stopped by. Thank you for browsing! If I can answer any questions for you, please let me know!

2017 Schedule

A new year is fast upon us so I better update my website with my 2017 dates as I know them.  This year I am cutting back on the amount of outdoor festivals I am doing and I am increasing the amount of private parties I am face-painting at.  There are two very good reasons for this; I have not been able to make a profit at the outdoor festivals that is worth the amount of time and work it takes to set up, run, and breakdown for them and I am being hired by more private parties for face-painting.  If you want/need some of my cards and prints of my paintings, contact me and I will make sure they are at The Art Shoppe for you or we can meet face-to-face.  I am still volunteering Wednesday mornings at The Art Shoppe in the Midtown Global Market on Lake Street from 10am to 1:45pm where I continue to offer face-painting for the “Wee Wednesday” crowd.

I have been hired to work the Children’s Activities Tent for the Swede Hollow Art Festival, Saturday, June 3rd.  I will be overseeing the drawing table while I provide free cheek art face-painting for anyone who wants one.

Wednesday, June 21st is International Music Day but the Midtown Global Market will be celebrating it on the previous Saturday.  I have been hired to offer free face-painting to anyone under the MGM Children’s Activities tent on Saturday, June 17th.  I will be outside facing the Main Stage behind all the seating.  I worked their event last year and it was fabulous.  There were Aztec dancers as well as a Chinese dragon as well as a Hip Hop Line Dance instructor.  I will be working from 1 to 4pm, but the music starts at 10am and goes until 5pm on both the outdoor and the indoor stage.

Sunday, June 23rd is Open Streets Minneapolis and I will also be working under the Children’s Tent outside for the Midtown Global Market from 12:30 to 6:30pm.  I will be face-painting for free as MGM is paying me to be there.

Saturday, July 22nd there will be a Peace Celebration and I will be offering free face-painting during it at the Battle Creek Recreation Center.  My booth will be set up from 3 to 7pm and this is a public event so anyone can attend.

Saturday, August 12th I will be offering face-painting for a reduced fee at Saint Pascal’s Baylon’s Summerfest.  This is the same church fundraiser that I have worked at for them for 5 years straight.  I will have some prints and cards there for sale, but it won’t be the elaborate display I have done in the past.

Saturday, September 16th I will be providing free face-painting at the Richfield Church of Christ from 12 to 2pm.  This is a public event that starts at 11am and all are welcome to come.

Saturday, September 23rd I will be providing free face-painting at the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church from 2 to 6pm.  This is also a public event that anyone is welcome to attend.

MCBA’s Fall ComicCon date has not been released yet, but I know I will be there selling face-paints to help people cos-play as their favorite superhero.  All I know so far is it will be at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and it will be sometime in October.  Stay tuned for further details.  Thank-you!

2016 Face-Painting Events

I have been telling customers recently that they really need to book me far in advance for their events and here’s an example of that.  I was just hired for a year from today to face-paint for the East Side Harvest Festival on Payne Avenue.   So, next year (2016) on September 17th I will be face-painting after the big parade that kicks off at noon on Maryland Avenue and goes all the way down to Wells Street.  I will be with the other vendors for the big party where there are usually 2 bouncy houses going and the brightly-colored Aztec dancers.  I can’t wait!

I am also booked out indefinitely by St Pascal to do their National Night Out Event which is always the first Tuesday night in August.  Next year, National Night Out falls on August 2nd.

If you think you will want me for your child’s birthday party, let’s get something on the books now.  I don’t want to disappoint the kiddos!  🙂

Spring and Summer Schedule, 2015

Starting in March, I work Wednesdays at The Art Shoppe at 920 E Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN, 55407.  The Art Shoppe is a consignment shop for artists located in the Midtown Global Market.  It is one stall down from the Children’s Play area which makes it a great location for me to provide face-painting services when I work there.  They also sell my cards and Art Prints at The Art Shoppe.  If there is a specific design or amount you wish to purchase, please contact me ahead of time so I can make sure it is in stock for you. I also try to face-paint as often as I can at the Friday Family Fun Nights in the Midtown Global Market next to the stage where live music is being played.  The family-friendly bands such as The Roe Family Singers start performing at 5:30pm and usually end at 7:30. Please send me an e-mail if you are wondering if I will be at a specific Friday Family Fun Night.

Saturday, March 14th is the Green Craft Fair at the Midtown Global Market.  I will have my table set up to sell art cards, prints, and face-painting from 10am to 5pm on that day.

Thursday evening, March 19th, from 5:30 to 7pm, I have a personal “Meet and Greet” scheduled for The Art Shoppe in the Midtown Global Market (the old Sears building at 2929 Chicago Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN, 55407) on the Lake Street Side.

Friday, May 1st I will be the “Superhero Face-Painter” for the McDonough Recreation Center for 3 to 6 pm and am super excited about being asked to come back there.  🙂

Saturday, May 2nd from 9am to 4pm we will kick-off the Eastside Open Market (our local farmer’s market) at the First Lutheran Church of St Paul, 463 Maria Avenue, St Paul, MN, 55106 with a Spring Boutique.  We have given the neighborhood 2 years of Holiday Boutiques and now are going to try a Spring offering as well.  Our farmer’s market will follow this event shortly.

Saturday, May 16th and Sunday May 17th I will be the “Superhero Face-Painter” in full costume at the Midwest Comic Book Associations MSP Comicon.  The MSP Comicon will be held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Grandstand, 1265 Snelling Ave. N., Saint Paul, MN, 55108, and both days the doors will open at 10am and close at 5pm.

Thursday, May 21st from 4 to 8 pm I will be sponsoring a chalk art contest at the Eastside Open Market.  The chalk is provided and anyone can enter.  First prize is $25 and second prize is an assortment of art materials.  The Eastside Open Market is our local farmer’s Market held every Thursday night at the First Lutheran Church of St Paul.  Our tagline is, “We Make It Or Grow It.”

Saturday, June 6, I will have a booth at the Swede Hollow Art Festival down in picturesque Swede Hollow Park.  This outdoor event will take place rain or shine and starts 10am.  To gain entrance into this St Paul Park park go to Beaumont at Drewry Lane, which is one block south east of Payne and East Minnehaha Avenues (watch for the signs).  In case of rain it will be held at the Hope Academy at the corner of Payne Avenue and Minnehaha.

Wednesday evening, June 17th I will be face-painting at the Community Picnic for Mounds Park United Methodist Church.  This picnic will be held at the Indian Mounds Park next to their new playground unless it is raining.  In that case it will be held inside the Mounds Park United Methodist Churches basement fellowship hall.

Wednesday, July 8, I will be face-painting at the Metropolitan State Library outdoors.  Open Eye Theater will be performing “Tucker’s Robot” from 6-8pm.  This event is free and open to the public. Hope to see you soon!  Thank-you, Diane.

The Art Shoppe at the Midtown Global Market

I have recently become a co-owner of a very cool store called “The Art Shoppe”.  The Art Shoppe is basically a consignment shop for artists.  Right now we have 90 Minnesota artists that sell their work in our store which is located in the Midtown Global Market on Lake Street (the old Sears building).

Several of our artists have endured life-challenges and/or health issues.  We were started by the non-profit “A Minnesota Without Poverty” to help give artists a viable place to sell their wares while gaining marketing skills.  Now, three years later, we donate 5% of our proceeds back to “A Minnesota Without Poverty”.

In March, 2015 I will be the “Wall Artist” which means I get to hang my art up on an entire wall in the shop.  There will be a “Meet The Artist” event for me on March 19th from 5:30 to 7pm which is open to the public.  I will be talking about why I paint places and make “squiggly-squirrelly” lines and fielding your questions.  I hope you can come!  Finger foods will be provided.

Even if you can’t come to the “Meet the Artist” event, please stop in and support The Art Shoppe if you are in need of a card, a gift, or ART.  90 artists on a mission to end poverty is a great thing to support.  🙂
